I think most ALL of them will eventually break. (Bad Cable Replaced) AND then stress has broken the re-weld before the new cable has had a chance to start binding. Unless the Cable WAS the cause for the first break. That stress alone could cause a break, (without it being the cable specifically. And this is the right way to repair it, I guess, but It still might be weaker than a new one ? I could imagine someone removing the pedal weldment (everything welded together into that one piece) AND grinding a "V" around the break and welding the spline portion back onto the end of the shaft. making it the weakest point on the assembly. This is a well named thread and should be very useful to a number of TrackKick lovers.Īs for welding ? The problem is usually at the spline (sticking out the end of the mounting support) The spline is smaller in diameter due to machining. These threads were meant to help other people. They told me the clutch weld broke loose, so they re-welded it. The clutch pushed completely to the floor, and I had no clue so I brought it in to the shop. I wonder if I didn't break a "pedal" before. Quote from: erik the red on Wednesday, Sep 19, 2007, 04:44 PM The pedals are expensive and hard to replace (on a '96, due to the more complicated dash system), so brace yourself, my '96 DD's clutch stuff had been replaced already, but I got a look at the repair receipts, OUCH$$$ I'd start with locating a new clutch cable, ('96 is a little different from earlier models), and you need a spare anyway, if you know the history of the vehicle and are sure it has not already been replaced, its time. BUT the shaft will soon reach its death if it is exposed to enough abuse (from a dragging clutch cable) Most people ignore the cable as it gradually gets harder to pull. This is the weak point, amplified by the stresses of a continually harder to pull clutch cable. If this is what is happening, your pedal might might be bending (actually breaking) at the spline on the end of the shaft.
#1993 GEO 5 SPEED TRANSMISSION SHIFTER SHAFT MANUAL#
This is typical in '96 and up with manual and also existed to a lesser extent in the earlier TrackKicks. I think it will be your clutch linkage going out. I'd check the oil in the trans and T-case.
